The 155-acre Shelby City Park offers many reasons for a visit. Two unique attractions that alone are worth a visit include a rare all-wooden 1919 Herschell Spillman Carrousel that has been restored as well as a 1952 restored "Rotary Special" miniature train. Guests can ride either for a nominal charge. In addition to the park's carrousel and train, there are beautifully kept ball fields, accessible "All Aboard" playground, picnic areas, aquatics center, nine-hole golf course, tennis courts, outdoor volleyball and croquet court, horse shoes, and a sitting garden.
There is also a community center with 1,500-seat gymnasium with stage, gymnastics room, aerobics room and conference rooms.
Thousands of visitors take advantage of the different venues and programs offered at City Park.
