First U.S. Lifesaving Station in North Carolina built and manned in 1874. Original station was converted into a boathouse when a newer station was constructed in 1911; now restored to original structure. The historic seven-building site has exhibits and displays, including one honoring the African Americans that manned the Pea Island Lifesaving Station. Variety of programs offered during summer months. Call for schedule. Admission charged.
