Beachside to Boardwalk Family Fun in Carolina Beach
The Columbia Theater Cultural Resources Center (CTCRC) is an environmental and cultural history museum whose focus is man and nature. Features the history of fishing, farming and forestry in Tyrrell County with an animatronic figure called “Hunter Jim,” local artifacts displayed in Hollywood-like sets, original items from the Theater. Special programs for groups.
The CTCRC is housed in the old Columbia Theater built in 1938 by German immigrant Fred Schlez. A former movie palace that had fallen into disrepair, the Theater closed in the late 1960s and was vacant until 1995, when the Partnership for The Sounds began renovating the building. The Columbia Theater Cultural Resources Center opened in October of 1998.
