The Trail follows the Revolutionary War route of Patriot militia men from Virginia, today’s eastern Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina to the battle of Kings Mountain, SC. While there are hiking segments, the primary public access is by car over the commemorative motor route. The trail marked portion in Rutherford County follows U.S. 64 west to Rutherfordton, one of only two towns through which the trail courses, turns left on US 221 South past the Rutherford County Court House in downtown Rutherfordton to West Court Street. At Washington Street the trail turns left and then right onto to Maple Street (NC 108).The trial passes by Rutherfordton Elementary School and Rutherford Hospital and continues on NC 108 south towards Columbus and Tryon.
