About
The Outdoor NC stewardship programming offers participants ready-to-use resources to raise awareness, activate projects and celebrate positive outcomes. This initiative began in 2020 when Visit NC, in collaboration with the NC Outdoor Recreation Industry Office and Leave No Trace, partnered to ensure the state's outdoor resources thrive for the millions who visit these spaces each year. Our outdoor areas attract visitors from around the globe, and 63 percent of residents who enjoy outdoor activities do so within 10 miles of their homes. Caring for our outdoor resources is vital for all forms of economic development.
Outdoor NC is a movement that is committed to promoting stewardship throughout North Carolina. Destination stewardship is a process and includes a multi-stakeholder approach for shared management of shared resources. Each organization and person within an organization plays a role in its success. By participating in the Outdoor NC Partner Alliance program, you will gain foundational knowledge about responsible recreation, learning how destination stewardship benefits communities, preserves natural and cultural heritage, and improves visitor experiences. Partners receive practical tools, templates and content to advance projects and effectively communicate with visitors, residents and stakeholders while equipping Visit NC with stories and content to widely promote destinations, businesses and experiences that embody stewardship.
