Point of Interest
Halifax State Historic Site
25 St. David St., Halifax, NC 27839
Halifax in Eastern North Carolina is home to the Halifax Resolves, the first official action for independence by any colony. Halifax was the meeting place of the state’s Fourth Provincial Congress in 1776, and the historic structures that preserve the identity of this important colonial port comprise Historic Halifax. The site offers an audiovisual presentation, exhibits, guided tours and displays depicting the history of the town. And with 2026 marking the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Resolves, not to mention the Declaration of Independence, the state of North Carolina and the town of Halifax are planning a revolutionary celebration with events, demonstrations, ceremonies and more.
