Coharie Tribal Center
7531 N. US Highway 421, Clinton, NC 28328
At the Coharie Tribal Center, visitors are invited to experience the enduring legacy of one of North Carolina’s oldest tribal communities — descendants of the Neusiok Indians — who have lived continuously as a tribe in their present location since the mid-1700s. The center’s heritage gallery offers an in-depth look at Coharie history, with an impressive collection of locally sourced artifacts that trace the tribe’s culture, resilience and evolving traditions.
The site is also home to the Annual Coharie Cultural Pow-Wow, held every second Saturday in September, a vibrant celebration of song, dance and community. For those seeking a deeper connection to the landscape, Black River tours guided by Coharie members offer a powerful way to explore the region’s ancient bald cypress stands and rich ecological beauty, all while hearing stories of the river’s cultural significance.
