The museum completed restoration in 2005, of the 1902 building formerly known as Wilkes County's courthouse and is one of only three remaining of the Beaux-Arts Neo-Classical Revival style. Full of rich heritage, colorful characters, significant events and true enterprise in cultural arts & music, and business & industry exhibits tell the story of Wilkes from its beginning through Native Americans, Moravian explorers, Revolutionary & Civil War heroes, moonshine and racing, Daniel Boone, Gov. Montford Stokes, the infamous Tom Dula "Dooley," natural disasters like the 1916 and 1940 floods, pottery and much more.
Tours include the museum, Old Jail, Robert Cleveland Log House, and local historic properties within the National Register of Historic Places.
