Scottish Tartans Museum
Learn about the Scottish emigrants to our area, find your clan or family tartan, and gain an appreciation for the richness of the traditions surrounding the Scottish National Dress.
The Museum gallery features original and replica kilts showing styles from the late 16th century to present day, with original kilts dating back more than 200 years. We have more than 500 tartan samples. Other exhibits include Scottish weaponry, a weaving display and details of the Scottish migration to North Carolina, plus their relationship with the Cherokee Indians in particular.
The museum, the only one of its kind in the United States, contains the official registry of all publicly-known tartans and is the American extension of the Scottish Tartans Society in Edinburgh, Scotland.
