A 100-foot mural of the surrounding mountains is located in the main gallery and sets the stage for your tour. Exhibits provide a trip back in time, from the natural history to the world’s largest open-face granite quarry, a stop at an authentic reproduction of a log cabin; a turn-of-the-century general store; a train room where a 70-foot scale model train exhibit is nearing completion; a gallery on fire fighters that includes a 1916, 1926 and 1946 fire truck, all used by the City of Mount Airy. Second floor exhibits focus on the early 1900s, The "Original Siamese Twins" - Eng and Chang Bunker - Andy Griffith heritage, Tommy Jarrell and more! A visit to the observation room, located on the fourth floor of the clock tower, provides an awesome view of surrounding mountains.
