History Museum of Burke County
All tours are non-scripted and docent-led, giving a personalized perspective of the hundreds of artifacts on display. Walk through room settings, becoming a part of a doctor or dentist office or beauty shop, or view housewares and military displays.
Exhibits unique to the History Museum include rare photos of the building of Lake James, a collection of more than 1,000 scale model airplanes, and the tragic story of Frankie Silver, the only woman ever hung in Burke County.
Dedicated to the preservation of Burke County’s colorful past, the museum contains two floors of varied collections in galleries and open room settings. Major gallery exhibits change quarterly, themed exhibits on a yearly basis.
