Dunn Area History Museum
Located in the heart of beautiful downtown Dunn, the Dunn Area History Museum collects and preserves artifacts and other historical materials pertaining to the history, culture and heritage of the Dunn area.
After receiving the name "Hell's Half Acre" because there was nothing in the area, the Dunn area became known as "Tear Shirt" due to a local tavern fight during the Civil War. After the war, the town got the name "Lucknow" and then became "Dunn" after Bennett Dunn, who was responsible for supervising the construction of the railway between Wilson and Fayetteville. At one point, Dunn was the biggest mobile cotton yard in the United States. Today it hosts the annual NC. Cotton Festival every year the first Saturday in November to honor its agricultural roots!
