The first and only fly fishing trail in the United States is located in Jackson County.

The Western North Carolina Fly Fishing Trail, situated in Jackson County, features some of the best trout waters in the Great Smoky Mountains. The trail takes you to 15 excellent spots for catching brook, brown and rainbow trout. Jackson County features the longest contiguous stretch of waters that have been designated by the NC Fish & Wildlife Department as NC Mountain Heritage Trout Waters. We also feature more than 4,600 miles of pristine waters in the county, stocked with 92,800 fish each year.
