Containing a number of structures designed by well-known Benton & Benton Architects of Wilson. Williamston is located on the banks of the Roanoke River. Williamston is also the county seat of Martin County. The town was named Williamston in honor of Colonel William Williams, scion of a wealthy and distinguished family who owned large plantations on the northwestern part of the county prior to the revolutiom.
