Chances are if you’ve been in downtown Greensboro for any amount of time then you know who the hot dog lady is. Katie Darnley has been outside the courthouse and outside the bus depot for almost 20 years now... rain or shine, serving her one of a kind dogs with her famous homemade secret recipe chili. Well, she’s decided it’s time to come inside!

The Red Onion is named for the only ingredient that Darnley doesn’t carry on her carts that she gets requests for quite often.

Cart lovers, don’t worry... the carts will still be in their places, but you are most likely to find Katie in the restaurant nowadays, serving her gourmet dogs, grassfed beef, free-range chicken, and vegetarian-friendly choices.

Almost everything served is made in-house... from the beer bratwursts and red pepper sausages to the apple jalepeno compote and the ranch dressing. The majority of the produce comes from local farmers, and the beef comes from Ingold Farms out of Asheboro.

First and foremost a gourmet hot dog restaurant. 8 different choices of hot dogs, with over 20 styles we make them... if you cant find a style to your liking you can let them know and they will make an original dog to fit you! If you aren’t a fan of dogs don’t write them off yet! Offering a variety of sandwiches, salads, and starters that are sure to hit the spot for anyone!

Also has a full bar, carry a wide variety of fine wines, and have 11 different craft brew taps.
