Located on the site of what was once the Southern Railway Company’s largest steam locomotive repair facility. Visit antique automobiles at “Bumper to Bumper” and trace the history of transportation in “Wagons, Wheels & Wings.” Experience days of the working railroad repair shop in the restored 1924 Robert Julian Roundhouse. The museum features 13 buildings on 57 acres, including exhibits on early transportation. Seasonal train ride (fee), audiovisual show, visitors center and gift shop. Check our website for special events, admission and train ride prices.

Our current exhibit is "How the West Was Won: Trains and the Transformation of Western NC," which tells the story of the coming of the railroads after the Civil War and the impact they had on the life, economy, culture, folklore, music and landscape of the mountains. It runs through Feb. 2018.
