A visit to Hillbilly Hideaway is like going to your grandmother’s for Sunday lunch. Sam Bray and the High Tech Hillbillies are the house band, and provide traditional bluegrass, gospel and country music for the many guests that drop by to eat and listen. Many are regular diners, and others are newcomers to the region or restaurant. As diners finish their meals, they move over to the music hall for the day’s entertainment. Bray, who writes and publishes music, and fiddler Gilbert Priddy of Walnut Cove have been playing together since the 1960s, and are joined by Roy Stuart on steel, Bobby Shackleford on bass, Matt Hopson on banjo, and Cherrie Hopson on mandolin. Talented young singer Amy Jones often joins them, and occasionally Bray invites visiting musicians to the stage. People come for the food, stay for the music, browsing in the gift shop and go home in a better frame of mind.

Tour buses are welcome.

And if you can’t get enough, see about renting the Rose Cabin Retreat, located nearby. The features include 2 bedrooms (1 queen, 1 twin) with TV and VCR in each bedroom, full kitchen, living room and screened in porch.
