Coharie Intra-Tribal Center

  • 7531 North US 421 Highway

    Clinton,   NC   28328

The Center has a large beautiful display gallery filled with local Coharie Indian heritage artifacts.

The Coharie people descend from the aboriginal tribe of the Neusiok Indians. According to the 2000 census, the Indian population was 1870. However, our current tribal roll has 2,520 members, with approximately 20% of these members residing outside the tribal communities. Historical movement, initiated by the Inter-Tribal as well as White/Indian colonial hostilities, caused the Coharies to move to their present location between 1729 and 1746. Since this date, they have lived continuously as an Indian Tribe. The site is also home to the Annual Cultural Pow-Wow held the second Saturday in September.
