The Arts Council Galleries, which include the Judge Adam Crawford Grant, Jr., Gallery and the Martha Hughes Dusch Gallery are located in the renovated Historic Cabarrus Courthouse at 65 Union Street in Downtown Concord. The majestic building, which was built in 1876 and is on the National Register of Historic Places, also houses offices for the Cabarrus Arts Council and Historic Cabarrus. A theatre for professional performances will open in 2008 in the former courtroom upstairs. The galleries, which are operated by the Cabarrus Arts Council, feature nationally and regionally prominent artists working in a variety of media. In addition, one gallery displays work by local artists of merit. Gallery talks by artists and other special events are held regularly. A gallery shop sells unique handcrafted items ranging from pottery to jewelry to textiles. Trained volunteer docents are available for tours of the galleries and the historic building. Admission is free. For information or to arrange a tour, call 704-920-ARTS (2787).
