Featured in the district are Layden’s Country Store, featuring homemade smoked sausages and meats and hoop cheese; and the Piney Woods Friends Meeting House, the successor of the monthly Meeting of Friends established in Perquimans County in the 1670s. Also near is the Up River Meeting House. The Nicholson House restaurant, housed in a 1897 Victorian with a turret, is in the area as well as the 1785 Plantation House which was the home and burial place of the iconic disc jockey Wolfman Jack.
