Located just 18 driving miles from First Flight Airport and the Wright Brothers National Memorial, the airport has a lot to offer those visitors to our community. With the North Carolina Aquarium located at the entrance to the terminal, the airport’s location rests on the waterfront. At the water's edge, the airport borders the beach that has a lifeguard from Memorial Day to Labor Day, an open air pavilion on the sound with charcoal grills, picnic tables, and a restroom all overlooking the sandy beach. The Dare County Regional Airport (MQI) is owned by the County of Dare and operated by a nine member Airport Authority that oversees the airport's daily operations. MQI utilizes two runways (5-23) and (17-35) with radio controlled lighting. The facility also has AWOS weather service, DME, VOR and ADF navigational equipment.
