Come enjoy a celebration of flight and beer held every October on the Outer Banks. The event is modeled after the whimsical and entertaining Red Bull Flugtag, which translates to “flying day” in German. With OBX Brewtag the general premise is the same, although rather than human-powered flying machines, teams build creative and fun gliders that are used to launch an empty 1/6 barrel keg from atop a 20-foot-tall flight deck to see whose flies the farthest. This event is also a craft beer and music festival, featuring local and regional brews and tunes. Half of all proceeds will benefit the Outer Banks Community Foundation Disaster Relief fund, supporting Hatteras and Ocracoke Island hurricane relief. The remaining proceeds will be donated to the Rogallo Foundation to support the construction of the Rogallo Museum of Low-Speed Flight at Jockey’s Ridge State Park.
