For more than 220 years, Southport has celebrated our nation's Independence in a big way, and we invite you to join the celebration! Incorporated as the N.C. 4th of July Festival in 1972, the festival remembers the sacrifices, celebrates freedom, and promotes family fun.

The festivities begin with the traditional welcoming ceremony in Southport held on the Fort Johnston lawn in Southport on June 30 at 6:30 p.m. This will be followed by a reading of the Declaration of Independence. Festivities continue with Oak Island Beach Day on Saturday 1 July. A day full of games, entertainment and food hosted by the Town of Oak Island begins at 8 am. Carlton New Review band will keep you dancing with live music! The day ends with the annual Beach Day & Oak Island Fireworks show at 9 pm at the Oak Island Pier.

The four days of events include the children’s entertainment, arts & crafts market, food truck row, entertainment, flag retirement & flag raising ceremonies, Live Pro Wrestling, parade, and the reading of the Declaration of Independence. Festivities will conclude on July 4 with a fireworks display fired from the Southport waterfront that will be visible for miles around!
