Dancers and musicians from around the world parade down Main Street to the county courthouse for the opening ceremony of the Parade of Nations.
Folkmoot is a 10-day event, held across the mountains of Western North Carolina in Waynesville, Clyde, Lake Junaluska, Maggie Valley, Canton, Cherokee, Franklin, Hickory, Asheville, and Hendersonville. Each yearly festival features cultural ambassadors/dance performing groups from Ghana, Italy, Czech Republic, Mexico, Venezuela and Northern Cyprus, Thailand and local Appalachian and Cherokee dancers and musicians. With dozens of performances held during two weeks by hundreds of world dancers and musicians from nine countries, Folkmoot brings the world's diverse cultures together. Sharing traditions and learning about people around the world has never been more exciting and entertaining! Enjoy performances, workshops, the Parade of Nations, and meet the performers. Folkmoot USA is North Carolina's official International Festival.
