Majestic in its scope and dazzling in its sound, Gustav Holst’s sonic celestial showpiece is a magical awe-inspiring trip through the galaxy. The NC Symphony conducted by Maestra Gemma New brings this timeless orchestral suite with a movement named for each planet of the Solar System and its corresponding astrological character to life. Also enjoy "Rainphase", the latest orchestral work from New Zealand composer Salina Fisher, that draws on the characteristics of water as rain: its shape and shapelessness, transparency and density, energy and calm, and its capacity for reflection. The evening's program is rounded out with Claude Debussy's classic "Nocturnes".
