Every Johnny Cash fan should see this special 50th anniversary theatrical re-creation of Live At San Quentin — one of Johnny Cash’s most legendary and iconic performances -- by Johnny Folsom 4. Recorded in front of the prison’s raucous inmates on February 24, 1969, the live album sealed Cash’s first big career comeback and spent most of that summer at the top of the charts.
The show at the Carolina Theatre will feature a full re-creation of the entire performance, including June Carter Cash, Carl Perkins, the Carter Family, and the Statler Brothers. It stars David Burney of Johnny Cash tribute band Johnny Folsom 4 as the Man in Black and Erin Wise of Louis Waymore as June Carter Cash.
David Menconi of the News & Observer calls Johnny Folsom 4 “a peerless tribute band to the late, great Johnny Cash,” and No Depression magazine says “for those of us unable to have seen Cash perform during his life, this is more than a treat. It’s a time machine.”
