The 2019 Festival of Yesteryear event features professional actor Stephen Seals of Colonial Williamsburg portraying James Armistead Lafayette, an enslaved African American who served the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War under the Marquis de Lafayette. The annual Festival include costumed re-enactors demonstrating various aspects of daily life including music, toys and games, spinning, woodworking, and militia drills. The event also features musical and artistic performances, military firing demonstrations, and hands on activities for kids. The Cross Creek Pipes and Drums along with the Highland Dancers will perform at 10:00 am. The puppet show this year is “General Lafayette and the Giant of the Revolution” performed by the living history group Shades of Our Past from Williamsburg, VA at 11:00 and 3:00 pm. Shades of Our Past also offers traditional silhouette drawings for a fee. Crowd favorite April C. Turner of Life as Art Productions will be back again this year doing her program “African Spirituals: Freedom Prayers” at 2:00 pm. Military demonstrations including cannon and musket firings will take place several times during the event.
