EUE/Screen Gems Studios is the largest studio on the East Coast

The Wilmington area is affectionately known as "Hollywood East" for good reason. The region has hosted more than 400 movie and television productions since the early 1980s, including Iron Man 3, the highest grossing film of 2013.

This summer, EUE/Screen Gems - the largest studio complex east of California - is offering movie and television fans a chance to step behind the scenes with weekend tours.

In addition to exploring the 10-stage working lot and sound stages - including the sets of the CBS series Under the Dome - big- and small-screen fans can take a virtual trip through North Carolina film and television history in the screening theater where many famous producers, directors and actors have reviewed footage of productions shot at the studio.

During the past two years, EUE/Screen Gems Studios and the Wilmington area have hosted a number of films, including Iron Man 3, The Conjuring and We’re the Millers. In addition to Under the Dome, recent TV projects include Eastbound and Down, and Sleepy Hollow. The area also was home to fan favorites Dawson's Creek and One Tree Hill in the late 90s and early 2000s.

The hourlong walking tour covers indoor and outdoor sights, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring rain gear if there's a chance of showers.
