Museum of the Albemarle to Open New “Our Story” Exhibit, May 10 in Elizabeth City

ELIZABETH CITY, NC – Visitors to Elizabeth City will soon have the chance to see a cannon fired by the pirate Blackbeard and step inside a Colonial-era farmhouse, when the Museum of the Albemarle opens a new regional exhibit, “Our Story,” in its Madrin Gallery, Saturday, May 10. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled that day at 9:15 am.

Author To Discuss Her Search For Family Roots

EDENTON, NC – To culminate a community-wide reading of her book, Dorothy Spruill Redford, the acclaimed author of Somerset Homecoming, will appear on Sunday, May 4th at 3 p.m. in the John A. Ansel Adams Exhibition Generates Headline News For Museum of the Albemarle and Elizabeth City

ELIZABETH CITY, NCThe Chicago Tribune covered it. So did the Boston Herald, San Francisco Chronicle, Tampa Tribune, The Washington Post and Atlanta’s Journal-Constitution. News of the Ansel Adams in the East exhibition at the Museum of the Albemarle generated more than $180,000 in public relations value, according to the Elizabeth City Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (ECACVB).

The Lost Colony Receives National Support

MANTEO, NC – The National Endowment of the Arts recently awarded the Roanoke Island Historical Association (RIHA), The Lost Colony’s producing organization, a $20,000 grant. The grant was awarded to assist the drama’s rebuilding efforts following the September fire that destroyed three buildings and their contents—including 80% of the current production’s costumes.  This is the first grant awarded by the National Endowment of the Arts (NEA) to an outdoor drama.

Pasquotank Arts Council Signs Construction Contract

2007 NC State Fair Awards 165 Medals in Commercial Winery Division

RALEIGH, NC – The 8th Annual N.C. State Fair Wine Competition, held Oct. 3-4 in Raleigh, had 249 wines submitted by 32 N.C. wineries. McRitchie Winery took home the N.C. Winegrowers Cup and Best of Show honors with their 2006 Chardonnay. Duplin Winery’s Magnolia took the N.C. Muscadine Cup for best muscadine wine for the third year in a row.

The Library will allow visitors to walk through “One Man’s Journey”—that of Billy Graham.
