Outer Banks Travel Advisory

Overwash from a nor'easter has damaged a 500-foot section of NC Highway 12 on Pea Island, in between Oregon Inlet and Hatteras Island, and the bridge leading into this area has been closed. Travel throughout the northern OBX beaches (Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head) and Roanoke Island (Manteo and Wanchese) has been unaffected by the storm. Visitors should consult Dare County Emergency Management for the latest updates.

Resident and visitor safety remains our top priority. North Carolina’s departments of transportation and public safety continue to monitor conditions to ensure safe travel. Information and links to resources can be found at ReadyNC.gov.

Visitors are encouraged to listen to advice from local officials and call ahead to reconfirm their travel plans, including reservations with lodging providers. Some power outages are possible.
