Oak Island Lighthouse

Completed in 1958, the Oak Island Lighthouse in Caswell Beach is North Carolina’s youngest lighthouse and 100 percent volunteer-run. Its distinctive concrete structure stands 153 feet tall, with a unique color scheme achieved by mixing pigment directly into the concrete during construction, resulting in no need for repainting. The lighthouse's beacon, once the brightest in the United States, could be seen for 16 nautical miles. Unlike other lighthouses with traditional spiral staircases, the Oak Island Lighthouse features a series of ship ladders leading to the top. Totaling 131 steps, this climb tour offers a unique experience for those with the motivation to venture up , and are available all year by appointment for climbers 9 years of age or older.
