The Crossnore School

Home of a beautiful Ben Long fresco and the world-famous Crossnore Weaving Room.The Weaving Room was established to preserve the ancient craft and to provide an income source for many mountain families. Today it is a working museum and gallery, which also displays locally made pottery and other craft items."Suffer, the Little Children," wall-sized fresco by Benjamin F. Long IV, located on the campus in the Sloop Chapel. The fresco tells the story of how Jesus received the children as the crowds surrounded him. The fresco features the faces of children from the School.An outdoor drama telling the story of of the school called "Miracle on the Mountain" is performed on weekends in late July and early August.To support its mission, the Crossnore School operates The Blair Fraley Sales Store (thrift shop), the Crossnore Weaving Room (A Working Museum), and Miracle Grounds Coffee Shop (a vocational classroom). All are located on campus.The Crossnore School is a private, non-profit children's home and charter school serving children from families in crisis. Founded in 1913, the schools special niche today is keeping sibling groups together who might otherwise be scattered in the traditional foster care system.
