Description

Demonstrations on historic pottery techniques such as coil pottery and the canoe building techniques performed be Indians in the past which requires a timely process of hollowing out tree trunks by carving out the wood with oyster shells and controlled burning. Children often participate in hands-on activities to actively learn more about Indian heritage and culture.

Open 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month 1pm-5pm. Also open for group tours by appointment.

The Catechna Indian Village longhouse is a scaled-down version of a 1600-1700 longhouse once located in the Indian village of this area. The Catechna Indian Village was once occupied by the Tuscarora Indians who lived along the Neuse, Tar, Pamlico, Roanoke and Grifton's Contentnea creeks.
