The Alleghany Historical Museum showcases the heritage of the county beginning in 1859 when Alleghany county was formed. The museum displays artifacts used by local ancestors. Each month features a different group of local ancestors, previous months exhibits have featured veterans and local women of the community.

From I-77, take Exit 83 (northbound traffic only) or Exit 85 and follow US 21 North, 28 miles up the mountain to Sparta. The museum is located at the intersection of US 21 and Hwy 18, across from the Alleghany County Courthouse.
