Town of Valle Crucis

The historic community of Valle Crucis is located 7 miles south of Boone. In the early 1900s, a local historian noted "a dreamy spell hangs over this little valley." As a haven for travelers for over a century, Valle Crucis is home of the Mast General Store, also listed on the National Register of Historic Places, bed & breakfast inns, cabins, and a host of outdoor activities including horseback riding, bicycling, and hiking.The rural countryside and gentle Watauga River provide many opportunities for relaxing and enjoying nature. The summers are filled with free Music in the Park concerts on Friday nights. In the fall, the surrounding mountains display a full palate of colorful foliage leading into the Valle Country Fair, held the third Saturday in October, and the Valle Crucis Punkin Festival, a kid-friendly festival held the fourth Saturday in October. Celebrate Christmas in the Valle on weekends during December at the Mast Store. Activities include make and take craft activities for children, visits with Santa, music, Santa Paws (pet pictures with Santa) and holiday treats.
