Description

R.J. Reynolds Auditorium opened in 1924. Katharine Smith Reynolds, the widow of R.J. Reynolds gave the money to build the auditorium and specified that it be used to benefit R.J. Reynolds High School, as well as the community. The Greek revival building stands on the school campus on Hawthorne Road and overlooks the bluffs of historic West End, as well as Hanes Park. During its prime, the auditorium staged performances ranging from Will Rogers to Harry Houdini.
