This National Historic Landmark is one of the finest examples of Georgian architecture in the South. Joseph Hewes, signer of the Declaration of Independence, was one of the commissioners appointed to raise money for its construction. Prominent revolutionary patriots, Judges James Iredell and Samuel Johnston heard cases here. The Courthouse is seen as part of the Historic Edenton tour, which begins at the nearby Visitor Center.
