Rural Hill is the 1760 homestead of Major John Davidson, a revolutionary war hero plus several other historic sites. The Bethesda schoolhouse is one of the first African-American schools (1900) and only one of two still standing in Mecklenburg County. The Davidson One Room Schoolhouse (1890) is restored at its original site. The Historic farm is the “Center for Scottish Heritage" in the area and "Where History Springs Alive."
Rural Hill is the home of the Rural Hill Scottish Festival and Loch Norman Highland Games, Rural Hill Sheep Dog Trials, and the Rural Hill Amazing Maize Maze.
