Taking advantage of Elizabeth City's waterfront vista, the Museum of the Albemarle contains exhibits and facilities enabling visitors to experience the cultural history of 13 counties in northeastern North Carolina. A chronological overview of the region is presented in the 7,000-square-foot main gallery with artifacts and graphics illustrating the geography and ecology of the area in addition to perspectives on its cultural development over the past 10,000 years. It is the northeastern regional branch of the North Carolina Museum of History. Admission is free. Donations are appreciated.
