Known throughout the world for breeding and protecting rare and endangered waterfowl – ducks, geese and swans – as well as other birds such as flamingos, cranes, toucans, kookaburras, and more! Features the world’s largest collection of waterfowl in continentally-themed aviaries. Visitors can enjoy a beaver pond blind for wildlife observation, North Carolina’s first accessible treehouse overlooking natural wetlands, an interactive bird station, poison dart frog and carnivorous plant exhibits, a working bee hive, playground, picnic area, fossil dig, gift shop and more.
The Landing Zone is our newest interactive exhibit where visitors can enter a special aviary. You'll be amazed as small birds land on hand-held feed sticks (available for $1.00). Flamingoes also gather in a pond fed by a waterfall, giving visitors an up close experience in The Landing Zone.
We offer self-guided tours but guided tours are also available by appointment so please ask if you're interested!
Several events including weddings, birthday parties, family reunions, and business meetings can be held at the park. Please contact Jo Ann Josey, Administrative Manager, to schedule your event. E-mail: joann@shwpark.com
