Reay and truley a wonderful place! Lucky to live within 10 minutes of Old Salem, and Salem College. The small town is dripping with history and allure. The cobblestone streets and Old preserved houses take you back in time, to a relaxing place where southern people lived and worked harmoniously. Can essitially go anytime, but the costumed tours are the best! Spend a night in the Bed and breakfast, Have dinner at the quaint resturaunt, get fresh old fashioned treats at the bakery. Old Salem also feautures one of the oldest churches in winston salem, accompianied by "God's Acre", A large cemetary with graves dating from the 1700's - 1900's. Some barley readable and crumbling, while others GRand and monumental. Really gives a rich understanding of how Winston Salem was, before it was!

Great outing for your friends or family visiting NC, or yourself if you have not been there! Costumed guides in period dress of 1600-1700's, the Old Winkler's Bakery where they make fresh baked goods in stone ovens was fun and the allure of history etc was amazing. Take a ride in a horse drawn carriage and visit the many stops on the tour. Self guided, yes -- but each stop has a docent to narrate and answer questions from the time period. Watch the demonstrations and kids will be captivated by it. All day adventure, we have taken many visitors to NC here and they love it!

We had a wonderful Sunday trip. The price was right and the tour was absolutely worth every penny of it. Our favorite was the Toy museum. It was totally eye opening. I never knew toys could be such an art. Only 2 hours drive from Raleigh and it was a great weekend get away place. The village was being supported entirely by ticket sales, grants and donations. If you and your family like history, this would be the place to go. Support them by taking a trip. You will like it.
