On stage for over 50 years, this spectacular outdoor drama portrays the history of the Cherokee Indians covering the period of 1540 up to and through the removal of all but a remnant to Indian Territory in Oklahoma in 1838 and into present-day Cherokee, where descendants of those who held out against removal and those who returned from it now live on their own, sovereign land. In 2006, Unto These Hills featured a new script, new director, new score, new choreography, new set design, new costuming and new cast members all aimed at conveying a more culturally authentic, historically accurate and Cherokee-centered experience. Such sweeping change transforms this drama from history-book tales of what happened to the Cherokee, to vivid insights into what it means to be Cherokee. The 2008 drama runs from June 13 - August 30 with nightly except Sundays. Pre-show starts at 7 p.m. with the drama beginning at 7:30 p.m.

We,too, are wondering if "Unto These Hills" is still in operation. We have written a play, "The Natchez" and formed the Shoals Outdoor Drama Asso. in Florence, AL. We went to see the play, "Tecumseh" this June and want to see "Unto These Hills". Some of our members have seen the play and have high praise for it. What happened? Does it indicate we need to know some data to keep us from failing? Please email or call Martha 256-767-1118 or Johnny 256-766-4707 or another Martha 256-765-2113 and talk to us. Please

Two comments: 1. In your description, it refers to 2008 performances from June 13 to August 30...what are the dates for 2010. We are headed that direction from June 3 to June 5 with the grandchildren. 2. Last summer, we drove to Cherokee to take the grandchildren to the children theater. The sign at the entrance stated to call a local number, which we did. The operator said to leave a message, so we left and went to the Folks Smoot in Waynesville, N.C. Thanks goodness,it was a great show for the grandgirls. We were disappointed in Cherokee. We used to take our children there for a great time. Seemed like the only thing going was the casino which is not a childrens attraction. Bill Kissam, bktigger@bellsouth.net
