The cemetery serves as the final resting place for 52 Confederate soldiers from the states of N.C., Ga., S.C. and Va. All soldiers buried in the cemetery died at the nearby Kittrell Springs Hotel which was converted into a military hospital during the Civil War. Saint James Episcopal Church (c. 1860), located near the cemetery, administered to the Confederate wounded and provided Christian burials for those who died. The cemetery is located seven miles South of Historic downtown Henderson and is listed as a NC Civil War Trails historic site.
