Description

*NOTICE* - The elevator to the top of Chimney Rock at Chimney Rock State Park is closed for maintenance for an undetermined amount of time. The project includes replacing the elevators guiderails and hoist ropes, and is one of several capital improvement projects the N.C. Division of Parks and Recreation has planned for the park. Chimney Rock will remain open during the repair work. Guests can still reach the 315-foot Chimney Rock by hiking up the Outcroppings Trail in just more than a half-mile, about a 20-minute walk. The parks normal winter operating hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. with the Ticket Plaza closing at 4:30 p.m., weather permitting. Rates will be reduced to $9 for adults and $5 for ages 6-15 during elevator maintenance.Choose your own adventure at Chimney Rock. Whether you want a leisurely stroll, a challenging hike, something fun and interactive for the kids or guided rock climbing instruction for some real high adventure, youll find it here. Breathtaking views that stretch for 75 miles, 404ft Hickory Nut Falls and one-of-a-kind geologic formations make Chimney Rock much more than a rock; its a mountain of possibilities. Our 26-story elevator, built inside the mountain, makes the views accessible for all. The Parks towering cliffs and waterfall were the backdrop for many scenes in the 1992 movie The Last of the Mohicans. Just 25 miles southeast of Asheville.

My brother and I were on a motorcycle trip thru the Blue Ridge Parkway and stoped at Chimney Rock. We had a great hike with fantastic views of Hickory Nut Gorge and the falls. It sure was worth the side trip. I would like to go back some time.
