Witness the effects of the forces of erosion which have carved and chiseled cliffs in the west bank of the Neuse River. Here ancient mountain communities meet coastal ones and mountain galax grows on rich slopes overlooking coastal trees draped in Spanish moss. This 750-acre park on the Neuse River features a 90-foot-high sand cliff, three hiking trails (1/2 mile each), picnic area, family camping, group camping, lake swimming, fishing and canoeing on the river. Creative dioramas and audio visuals in the museum depict the unique geology and natural history of the area. Small fee for camping, swimming. Cliffs of the Neuse State Park in on the NC Birding Trail and the Wayne County Paddle Trails.

I lived in this great State of North Carolina for 39 years and I finally brought my kids to one of the best parks that this State has to offer.I Just wish that we had a tour guide to take us down to the cliffs to see the layers of sediment that was depostited eons ago.If your major is geography this is a must see, two creeks one with a high Iron content and one without, two feet apart!!!! unreal.
