The Town of Tryon in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains is the perfect destination for a host of wonderfully unique experiences. There are options here for everyone, whether you want to just relax and take it easy or you would rather have excitement and adventure or even your own brand of exploration.

Historic Sites in Tryon
Downtown Tryon is rich in history that is evident in many fascinating forms including historic buildings scattered across the downtown streetscape. Take a walking tour of Tryon to see these fine examples of early American architecture up close. Many are on the National Register of Historic Places.

One historic landmark you can’t miss is Morris the Horse, a very prominent sentinel standing in the middle of town, a symbol of the community’s love of horses and a harbinger of upcoming events. Close by is the Tryon Toymaker’s House Museum that celebrates hand crafted art and woodwork from years ago when this was the focal point of local industry. Plus, you can visit a bronze statue of Nina Simone, world-famous African American jazz musician during the civil rights era, popularly known as the High Priestess of Soul, who was born and began her musical education in Tryon.

Browse Shops and Galleries in Downtown Tryon
In downtown Tryon, which is less than an hour from Asheville, you will also find contemporary and eclectic art galleries, shops that specialize in fabulously unique local wares, plus restaurants that offer a range of delicious menu options. Book stores, a wine and beer boutique, a land mark movie theater and more are waiting with warm welcome for you to walk in the door.

Pearson’s Falls and Scenic Byways
Popular attractions include Pearson’s Falls, which is an easy ¼ mile walk along a path that is bordered by a lush green glen on one side and rushing water on the other. Benches placed along the path as well as handrails and a fence, make it a safe way to explore the outdoors. To further explore the area, drive the scenic byways and see spectacular views, especially in the fall when the leaves put on a show of color that is absolutely breathtaking.

Inviting Events
Year-round, we have a very robust line-up of great events. For example, we are the site of the Blockhouse Steeplechase race each year, which brings thousands of horse lovers to the area for this, and many other equestrian events. Our annual Blue Ridge BBQ and Music Festival features national and state champions of the ‘Q,’ plus there is always good music, every imaginable type of art and crafts and fun for the kids.

Other annual events include a popular concert series in Rogers Park. These are lively, outdoor affairs, just perfect for you to experience Tryon under the starlit night skies. Also, because art is a tradition in the area, you will find a variety of festivals and shows dedicated to celebrating the expressions of local artists. And finally, a great surprise to many, is the fact that this area is ideal for growing grapes, and is the home of several wineries and vineyards. You are invited to participate in wine tastings at a number of venues. Find out about events on the Town of Tryon website or the area tourism site.
