Historic Sites in Tryon Downtown Tryon is rich in history that is evident in many fascinating forms including historic buildings scattered across the downtown streetscape. Take a walking tour of Tryon to see these fine examples of early American architecture up close. Many are on the National Register of Historic Places. One historic landmark you can’t miss is Morris the Horse, a very prominent sentinel standing in the middle of town, a symbol of the community’s love of horses and a harbinger of upcoming events. Close by is the Tryon Toymaker’s House Museum that celebrates hand crafted art and woodwork from years ago when this was the focal point of local industry.
