The mountains create a spectacular backdrop. Open green spaces offer glimpses of farm life and living in the country. Fall is absolutely stunning with bright yellows, reds, and magenta as Mother Nature sets out to impress us. Peak fall colors can be seen between late October and early November. Drive through the area and breathe. You will enjoy the relaxed experience, but know that just minutes from quiet you will find a host of attractions to explore. Beautiful Pearson’s Falls is less than 10 minutes from downtown Columbus, as are The Towns of Tryon and Saluda. Columbus is the county seat and the site to several historic features. Visit The Polk County Courthouse that was built in 1859 and still is in use today. A Civil War marker stands outside the Courthouse, along with several other items of interest related to our area’s history. Other sites to explore history include The Polk County History Museum, The House of Flags Museum, Stearns Park and Veteran’s Park. All are within walking distance of the Historic Courthouse. Columbus is host to several excellent restaurants. Here you will find food to satisfy every imaginable taste--from fine Italian dining to traditional home cooking. Browse through our shops and find unique gifts for friends and families. Visit Green Creek winery and sample some of the best wines made from grapes grown in the area. People come from miles around to attend our annual festivals. In July, the Columbus Fabulous Fourth celebrates our nation’s birthday. In October, the Columbus Farm Festival reveals the bounty of farm living. At Christmas, The Columbus Christmas Carol invites you to enjoy the warmth of our small town as the town is decked out in lights and ushers in the holidays. Between April and November our farmer’s market brings you the delectable tastes of our harvests from locally made jams and jellies to fine organic produce. We are a short drive to other area attractions such as Biltmore Estates in Asheville and the North Carolina Arboretum. Greenville, South Carolina is only 45 minutes away, and Charlotte is a quick hour and a half jaunt down Highway 74. Come visit Columbus. We know you will be glad you did.
