Kure Beach Pier is the oldest fishing pier on the Atlantic coast having been built in 1923. It is still a family business with the current owner being the grandson of the original builder. Hurricanes have taken its toll on the pier (rebuilt several times), but it remains an iconic symbol of Kure Beach with many families bringing their children and grandchildren to fish off the pier year after year. Visitors can not only fish and buy tackle, bait, rod and reel combos, but the non-fishermen will enjoy strolling the 711 feet of wooden planks, visiting the concession stand, playing at arcade and shopping the large souvenir area. This family-friendly, no-alcohol-allowed pier gives kids the chance to see miles of coastline without having to perch atop mom or dad’s shoulders and also watch the latest catch get reeled in.
