The museum strives to showcase the work of regional artists, who work in a variety of media and form, through rotating exhibits. Working as an advocate for artists, the museum partners with private business to sponsor full color art mailers featuring artists' works to announce upcoming exhibitions.

Collecting, maintaining and exhibiting an outstanding permanent collection are top priorities of the museum. While current facilities do not allow space to exhibit the permanent collection at this time, each year the museum displays a permanent collection exhibit. The museum’s permanent collection includes original works by Salvador Dali, Mackendrie Long, Kathe Kolwitz and Kenneth Noland, Audubon prints, pre-Columbian pottery and a 22nd Egyptian Dynasty mummy and coffin ensemble which was among the first permanent pieces acquired by the museum in the 1950s.
