Featured in the district are Layden’s Country Store, featuring homemade smoked sausages and meats and hoop cheese; and the Piney Woods Friends Meeting House, the successor of the monthly Meeting of Friends established in Perquimans county in the 1670s. Also, near is the Up River Meeting. The Nicholson House restaurant housed in a 1897 Victorian with a turret is in area. This rural area also is the location a short distance from the Country Store of the 1785 Plantation House which was the home of Wolfman Jack and where he is buried on the premises.
